How an Internship Can Shape Your Career
We checked in with Honeywell interns to hear what's inspiring their career paths
What did you want to do when you grew up?
Some of our summer interns’ dream careers include helping businesses digitally transform as a solutions architect, solving tough challenges in the global supply chain, and leading as a chief financial officer.
We checked in with 12 students who spent their summers across Honeywell pursuing projects that interest them and are helping them shape the next step in their careers.

Test Engineering Intern in North Carolina
What are your career goals?
"I plan on utilizing my foundational learnings within mechanical engineering and applying those principles within business operations. I am interested in learning more skills within varying technologies and processes that will help support a business."
How will you apply what you’ve learned during your internship to your career?
"I've grown within my professional and technical development by increasing my troubleshooting, strategizing and networking skills. I've learned the power of always being eager to learn more and being able to apply learnings in various disciplines in order to solve a problem."

What are your career goals?
“I want to work in business strategy and management. I enjoy seeing how businesses operate and make the strategic decisions they do to stay relevant in a competitive market.”
How will you apply what you’ve learned during your internship to your career?
“Driving decision-making using data from various sources and stakeholders. Additionally, understanding how different parties are involved in the bigger picture and making sure to get input from all areas.”

What are your career goals?
“I’m passionate about human resources and want to continue in this field.”
How will you apply what you’ve learned during your internship to your career?
“I’ve been working on the onboarding process for a business unit so new #futureshaper hires have all the necessary tools to have a great experience during their journey with Honeywell. As the work world is changing, we have to solve new challenges, and I am excited about using a career in human resources to give employees the tools to encourage work-life balance.”

What are your career goals?
“I would love to travel Europe before I enter the workforce and hopefully take on a controllership or a financial planning and analysis role.”
How will you apply what you’ve learned during your internship to your career?
“So far, I have learned a lot about corporate finance that no college textbook could teach and being exposed to the people, the processes and the environment has been an amazing learning experience that will help me prepare for my finance and accounting career in the future.”

What are your career goals?
“I am most passionate about the financial and supply chain industry. The supply chain issues around the world has always intrigued me. I love taking on challenges and pushing the limits to innovative methods of solving problems. I would love to be in a position in the future where I can drive innovation and be at the forefront of solving the world's issues.”
How will you apply what you’ve learned during your internship to your career?
“I have learned different methods in attacking the same supply chain issue that everyone is facing around the world. The creation and implementation of the plan here is something that I will be able to replicate to some level at any other career.”

What are your career goals?
“I plan on translating the lessons I have learned as an intern to whatever my future roles may be in accounting and finance. Hopefully, this will ease the transition from college student to a full-time employee.”

“Interning at Honeywell has taught me a great deal about what it is like working in a professional environment. Within just my first few weeks, I have noticed a rapid increase in my understanding of financial platforms, terminology and processes.”

“I hope to continue working in strategy and marketing. I also want to balance my work life by continuing to volunteer and mentor.”
How will you apply what you’ve learned during your internship to your career?
“I'm equipped with a wider range of skills to make better business decisions. I also interfaced with customers to develop corporate solutions by understanding their value chain, pain points and needs. Interning at Honeywell has also allowed me to become more culturally sensitive and has increased my confidence in my own expertise and work experience. This was something important to me as a Latin woman coming from a foreign country.”

“I have learned a lot about making people’s jobs easier, from how to think about project structures to standardized process implementation to reach more people.”

“I would ideally see myself in the space of corporate finance with a role in financial planning and analysis.”
How will you apply what you’ve learned during your internship to your career?
“I've not only learned technical, mathematical and statistical concepts, but I've also learned how to network and communicate with the people I work with to both develop myself professionally and to also gain a better understanding of the organization.”

What are your career goals?
“I want to pursue a career as a solutions architect. I chose to study management information systems because of the balance between technical and interpersonal skills it teaches, and the role of a solutions architect strikes a similar balance. I also really enjoy how it allows me to work on a wide variety of solutions over time.”
How will you apply what you’ve learned during your internship to your career?
“I’ve already learned so much about navigating relationships, as well as work responsibilities. I’m excited to take those things and apply them to whatever is next.”

What are your career goals?
“I hope to work in supply chain management or marketing strategy to develop holistically sustainable practices and products. I believe that business can impact all stakeholders and want to create positive change not only within my organization but throughout the communities which we connect with.”
How will you apply what you’ve learned during your internship to your career?
“My projects have not only expanded my understanding of supply chain, but also allowed me to implement the knowledge I’ve gained at Michigan State in a real-world setting. In my opinion, this is extremely valuable because I have been able to see how different strategies can affect cross-functional areas within the company.”
