Upgrades Include Wide Area Augmentation System, Cursor Control And
XM® Weather Enhancements
EBACE, GENEVA, May 4, 2010 -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that
the latest software upgrade for its
Primus Apex integrated avionics system is now available for new production
and fielded Primus Apex equipped aircraft.
The upgrade incorporates Wide Area Augmentation System-Localizer Performance
with Vertical Guidance (WAAS-LPV) and circling approaches enabled via our FMS 7.1 software update to the flight
management system, and additional XM weather features and a new trackball
cursor control interface.
“This Primus Apex upgrade offers navigation functionality usually found on more
expensive business jets. Primus Apex operators will have WAAS-LPV, which allows
near Instrument Landing System (ILS) Category 1 minimums with no ILS on the
field. Furthermore, operators will appreciate the unequalled horizontal and
vertical guidance with Global Positioning System (GPS) accuracy within seven
meters,” said Ken Snodgrass, vice president Integrated Platform Systems,
Honeywell Aerospace.
The system is designed to be compatible with supporting other Satellite-Based
Augmentation Systems (SBAS), such as European Geostationary Navigation Overlay
Service (EGNOS) in the future.
“Primus Apex incorporates advanced auto flight, navigation and situational
awareness capabilities and is ideal for operators looking for one of the most
sophisticated of avionics systems,” Snodgrass said.
Other upgrades include a new trackball cursor control device (CCD) which
enables point and click control on the displays, that allows additional
interaction with the INAV™ moving map and pull-down windows-based display pages
reducing pilot workload in creating and modifying flight plans.
Primus Apex is Honeywell’s integrated avionics system for customers that desire
similar navigation and situational awareness capabilities to those offered in
larger, global business jets such as integrated flight controls and Interactive
Navigation (INAV™) graphical flight planning with detailed terrain and sensor
overlays. Primus Apex equipped aircraft include the Pilatus PC-12 NG, Viking
Twin Otter, Spectrum S-40 and Comp Air 12.
