Newpoint gains exclusive rights to use UOP technology for natural gas
upgrading in the United States and Canada
DES PLAINES, Ill., Mar. 3, 2009 – UOP LLC, a Honeywell (NYSE: HON)
company, announced today it has signed an agreement with Newpoint Gas, LP to
exclusively use UOP Separex membrane technology in the design of specific gas
treating plants in Canada and the United States.
The agreement gives Newpoint Gas exclusive rights to offer Separex technology
as part of its design and fabrication of defined gas processing plants for
Canadian and U.S. customers.
UOP’s Separex technology upgrades natural gas streams by removing carbon
dioxide and water vapor in order to meet the quality standards specified by
pipeline transmission and distribution companies, as well as end users of the
natural gas.
“As demand for natural gas grows worldwide, processors increasingly need
reliable, compact, efficient and low-cost treating solutions,” said Peter
Piotrowski, senior vice president of UOP’s Process Technology and Equipment
business. “This agreement brings together proven UOP technology with Newpoint’s
outstanding design and fabricating experience to provide North American
customers the best option to meet their needs.”
Newpoint, headquartered in College Station, Texas, offers engineering,
equipment and services for the treatment and purification of natural gas. The
company has more than 20 years of design and operations experience in natural
gas.
“UOP and its Separex systems are world leaders in separation technology for
natural gas. This partnership couples Newpoint’s efficiencies in rapid
equipment designs with UOP’s advanced technology,” said Wiley Rhodes, CEO of
Newpoint Gas. “Together we know we will be a preferred solution
supplier.”
Separex membrane systems offer lower capital and energy costs, reduced space
requirements, and lower installation costs due to their smaller, lighter
modular design and lower operating costs. They also require less support due to
their simplified operation and maintenance.
The technology also operates with difficult-to-treat gas streams in remote
locations, providing confidence in being able to deliver gas when it is needed.
Systems can be installed either onshore or offshore, at the wellhead or at
gathered facilities. To date more than 70 Separex systems have been installed
worldwide.
