In Kansas City, the National Security Campus employs more than 2,500 engineers, technicians, skilled trades workers and support personnel dedicated to the national security mission. The modern, state-of-the-art campus encompasses 1.5-million-square-feet of advanced manufacturing, office and laboratory space. As one of the only LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold-rated manufacturing and engineering facilities in the U.S., the National Security Campus is recognized for its design, construction, planned operation, and maintenance by satisfying detailed requirements that lead to a healthier environment for the building occupants, the neighborhood, the larger community, and the general environment. In 2014, the New Mexico operations moved from the Kirtland Air Force Base to the Alamo Facility in Albuquerque. Approximately 200 National Security Campus employees work in New Mexico to support science and engineering research and development, communication equipment repair and electronic assembly, including secure transportation and communication solutions for the Office of Secure Transportation. A small group of National Security Campus employees reside at Los Alamos National Laboratory for component production and scientific support. They support the manufacturing of detonator assemblies, as well as provide mechanical engineering support for the Low Energy Demonstration Accelerator, electrical design and engineering support for the Spallation Neutron Source, and software engineering for advanced surveillance technologies. Our Los Alamos associates also collaborate with Los Alamos National Laboratory to develop fiber-optic sensors to support hydrodynamic testing.
